2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Reception
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified team members about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the need for a more defined vision.
Ismailer stated that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised approach, aiming to address community desires.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news follows a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Below is the entire content from Ismailer's announcement:
Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to consideration and reimagined the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our audience.
The belief in this project increases every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of the team. Following some time of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on next week.
His leadership and background in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in receiving him next week. We are all excited to keep witnessing the development of the game in the months to come.
David
